Why can’t I read at home?

Whenever I start reading at home I get distracted and restless. But when I’m somewhere else - at the cafe, shopping centre, on the train etc. I can read for HOURS, to the point I travel not to *get* somewhere but to be able to read in peace.

post-Venom thoughts [SPOILERS!]

First: the so-called movie critics. Completely unreliable is a gross understatement. I’ve seen my share of bad movies, even bad superhero movies in my life and “Venom” was not one of them. Sure, the movie has its flaws but it’s enjoyable as hell and that hour or so went unbelievably quickly. Now, do you remember the “Hulk”, the masterpiece I can recall nothing from except from the fact I wondered if I was seeing a full movie of if the copy our theater had got somehow damaged? That fever dream of a movie has 61% on Rotten Tomatoes. There you have your critics.

Now for the movie itself:

Eddie, it was your own damn fault you lost Anne. And your job.
But you’re such a wonderful disaster.
I kept thinking Venom would want to eat the cat. But it was the only being he wasn’t interested in XD
Dan was a surprisingly cool guy, I liked him a lot
Eddie/Venom/Dan, anyone?
I love Venom’s voice
Venom: “DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR”; Eddie: *opens the door*. Venom: BITCH WHAT DID I JUST TELL YOU
the fact Venom cares so much about his good opinion is fricking hilarious
it took like zero minutes for Eddie to start bickering with the scary monster that took over his body
…although it was quite clear from the start Venom enjoyed having Eddie as a host and wanted to protect him from any harm
it’s interesting that Venom shows up when Eddie’s life is in shambles and he feels so low as he’s probably never been before. I think it’s one of the reason he becomes such a good host; not because of the fact he’s life is a mess but because he’s basically just lost everything he cared for and Venom makes him feel needed and invincible. AND protected.
people who said Tom Hardy looked “ugly”, “bloated”, “disgusting” in the movie have no eyes
the restaurant and MRI scenes - two next proofs Dan is a surprisingly good character (and a person)
Eddie seemed really hurt when he learnt the Symbiote’s been damaging his health (”what happened to WE”?)
it’s weirdly adorable that Eddie thinks Riot is ugly - but did not even say one comment about Venom’s appearance

so in Venom’s own opinion he’s a “loser” on his own planet. Makes you wonder how the heck humans were even able to capture Riot

do you think being Venom’s host will eventually cure Eddie’s fear of heights?
lol at this point I’ve stopped myself from writing “Tom” instead of “Eddie” about a dozen times
it’s really interesting how quickly Eddie goes from “wtf is that scary voice in my head” to “I am happy to see you” (the forest scene)
he also shows no revulsion about the idea of KISSING a Symbiote-covered human (he’s seen worse I guess)
I wonder if the Symbiote keeps the memories of his previous hosts
I would be happy to hear Venom’s reasoning about why kissing was the best way to transfer him back to Eddie XD
the final battle is FEELS GALORE; you can almost hear Venom’s thoughts “we need to destroy Riot… and protect Eddie”
OH MY HEART THE WEDDING RING SCENE. I am so happy I didn’t know about it. For me it was definitely the most symbolic moment of the whole movie
I’d never thought I’d see Venom as a matchmaker. I hope he’ll like Dan too :)
FINAL THOUGHTS: a wholesome action and romantic comedy about a slimy brain-eating monster and his loser boyfriend. 10/10 would squee and laugh my ass off again

Mickey Mouse, a vampire and steam trains

Last night I had a really cool dream, one of those “where the heck did it come from?”

It was all animated, black and white, with Disney characters. The animation was like in those early Mickey Mouse cartoons, with cartoon logic played completely straight. The story was set in the 20′s and showed a city in a tense stalemate between the police and mafia.

Mickey works as a cop in a precinct that suddenly becomes a frontline of the quiet war. All because of one shop - one tailor store whose owner refuses to pay protection money and who’s surprisingly healthy and alive in spite of having gone through many “accidents”. His store also can’t be destroyed or burnt down, or damaged in any way. Someone discovers the owner is a vampire and asks the police for help. Meanwhile, the mafia bosses, also fed up with the unruly store owner, threaten the city with bloodshed if the “problem” don’t get fixed.

Here’s the catch: there’s an old law that obliges the police to deal with the “unholy threat”. The law is still on the books, but is hardly ever enforced if the person (vampire, shapeshifter, elf etc) doesn’t commit any crime. The police also has a weapon that can destroy non-human creatures. But no one in the police force really wants to use it because 1) the times have changed 2) no one wants to start an interspecies conflict.

The gangsters however have their spy at the station and the weapon gets stolen. Mickey learns about it from Goofy (who’s some sort of administrative assistant) and has to spring to action. The weapon is really powerful and could kill off almost every non-human citizen. And if the vampire turns out to be strong enough to deflect it, its power would ricochet killing countless other, less powerful non-human beings.

Mickey gets to the store before all the gangsters and police officers appear. He pleads with the vampire owner and tries to get him to run away - but it’s too late. The vampire decides to sacrifice his life by not deflecting the hit and absorbing the power of the weapon and suspects his store will be “mysteriously” destroyed by flames once his protective spells stop working. There’s really no time to do anything else so he only asks Mickey to save one of his works (earlier on it’s shown the vampire’s hobby is making miniature steam trains).

Mickey takes the bag with the train model and retreats in time to save himself from being killed with the vampire (weapon works mostly on non-humans; but will kill a human… well, a mouse too if they’re too close). The shootout between the police and gangsters hangs on a thin line but eventually the officers choose saving others hurt by the weapon over chasing the mafia goons.

In the evening Mickey and Goofy return home, saddened by the whole ever. Mickey takes the model and places it on the fireplace. Suddenly, he notices something and looks closely. Then grins.

It’s night and everyone’s asleep. The train gleams in the flames — until it’s not there anymore. We see the empty space on the fireplace and then a full-size, almost empty train speeding up the railroads, with one only passenger who draws something in a notebook filled with sewing patterns.

About ten minutes ago I entered my room, only to find a... frog hopping across the carpet. How did it get there? How long has it been there? No one knows (probably not long though; the most probable theory is that it jumped in through the open window at some point during the evening).

Anyway, the frog has been humanely removed from the premises and hopped away into the summer night. I am just struck by the utter ridiculousness of that whole event: one minute you're brushing your teeth and another you're staring at a frog dashing through your room.
